It’s the stupid things that make me so happy …
The Grocery Game – I have been trying to have our monthly grocery bill be under $1000 a month for the last year. I actually want it to be about $500 a month, but when you buy organic meat, dairy, veggies, fruit and bread that just doesn't happen. So I had set a goal for myself to use The Grocery Game to try to save 50% off my bill. (If you are not familiar with The Grocery Game, it is a website where you log in and print out a list of the really good sales at your local store – it tell you which coupons to use and how much to buy to get the best deal.) At the bottom of your receipt at King Soopers it tells you the percentage you have saved that day. I have been hovering around 40% for about a month. It would be safe to say that I am obsessed with this little game. I feel the need to tell everyone how much I saved that week. Pete and my mom are getting rather weary of the "guess how much I saved today" game. Well today I finally did it! Right on the dot. I spent $107 and saved $106. Yippee. I am still excited 5 hours later. Of course I had to call to call my friends and my mom and ask "guess how much I saved today!"
John and Kate Plus Eight on TLC. Have you seen this show? It follows a couple (John and Kate) and their two six-year-olds and six two-year-olds. I am a reality tv sucker to begin with, but this show tops my list. After a day with my two very nice little girls who completely exhaust me, I love to watch this crazy family with all of their kids. It is complete mayhem, kids are everywhere, two or three of them are always screaming, the mom is a total control freak who is always mean to her husband, basically - it makes me feel much better about myself! J Sarah watched it one day with me and said "wow that mommy has way too many of those little babies." It's a great waste of thirty minutes of my life.

Hi Wendy.
Congrats on your grocery savings. I saved 50% at KS last weekend, and it made me a bit giddy too!
Hey, I use this site that is like the Grocery Game, but it's free. It doesn't do all the work for you, but it does a lot of it. www.couponmom.com You have to register (free) and then you can select grocery deals by state, and it has really good lists for Safeway and King Soopers.
I'm sorry I'm so busy these days...would a Saturday morning ever work for you to have coffee or brunch sometime?
i love jon and kate plus 8!!! makes you appreciate what you have doesn't it!?!?!
at my house right now, it's pooping in the potty that gets me giddy (well, the kids, not me necessarily!) one more poop in the potty is one less for me to clean up!
and finally being able to walk to pick up the kids from school without a stroller. sucha difference, we're getting so big!
oh! and huge difference buying organic! that was another difference we didn't discuss last night. now it's a wonder that you only spent $1000/month! that's truely an accomplishment buying organic with such savings. maybe it will give me hope to be able to do more. we've given up on so many organic products and have scaled back due to cost :-(
50% is awesome. I think you should make a badge that says "I am goddess of coupons, I have saved 50% on my groceris, I wish you could be me to see how it feels". I smiled while reading your entire blog. I too get really excited when I save a large percentage, I even had a cashier at Target say "Holy Crap" once, I was so proud.
I saw one episode of Jon and Kate and it gave me a stomach ache and a great reason for birth control. I cannot handle the chaos,
Painting toes is terrific, my kids love it. My son too, why should he at 4 be excluded and he jumps right in can I have pink please, you bet.
The end of my day was great, my children have a gotten into the habit of having the giggles through dinner, courtesy of each other. While it makes dinner incredibly long and painful, the sound of my children delighting each other...priceless.
Great stuff. Have a good day.
i must admit that not much has made me giggle recently seeing that both the kids are sick and Luke has no need to go to bed. That being said the other night i did have to laugh when he kept coming out with different dress up hats and saying...in his pirate hat "argh matey no nite nite...or "bob de builder no go nite nite momma" and this continued for about an hour. had to laugh.
one more reason to move to Denver King Soopers! keep 'em coming!
Loved the pdicures. Crazy TV show. and I look forward to checking out the grocery game website. THanks!
